The list: local & sustainable Brands to Love

We ensure that every wholesale client we do business with shares the same values we have here at preloved; likewise, it would only make sense that others would do the same. It’s important that we support one another to bring about the change this planet needs.

Today, it is time we take a look at and appreciate some other brands that are sustainable, that are produced locally, and are run by women.

Our first brand worthy of admiration is Eleven Thirty. They specialize in designing and making leather bags. They are also sold by one of our crew members, Sattva Boutique!

Eleven Thirty strongly believes in all things local.  They make their bags in-house at a location with an intriguing history. Their building at 1130 College Street, Toronto, used to be owned by a fortune-teller. She is the inspiration for the name of the company and the logo design. Every great woman has a story to tell, and so do the two great self-taught designers and co-owners of Eleven Thirty, Mariel Gonzalez and Alexa Schoorl. It was almost as if they were destined to meet. The two girls were both on a search for a place to sell their own leather handbag businesses. They decided to try to work something out, despite being one another’s competitors. They then made the decision to join forces and work together. Like preloved, they believe in zero waste. That’s how they save the planet; they search for the least polluting and wasteful practices in order to make their products. They still make their products using real leather, but they never throw out an imperfect piece; in fact, that is what makes each and every product unique! Most of all, they think ahead. They prevent waste by making carefully calculated small batches to prevent overproduction, and by simply making a great long-lasting quality product.

The second brand that deserves to be recognized for their eco-conscious creations, is the candle-making company Murphy & Jo. They are sold by our well-loved crew members, Lemonberry.

Murphy & Jo want you to breathe in and be happy naturally. They do just that through their organic, plant based, and paraben free soy candles. Their scents are made with pure essential and fragrant oils. That’s not all, they source all of their high-quality ingredients locally for their local Toronto business. The two fabulous ladies who founded this company are Jordana Belillti & Nicole Adam. You were probably thinking that they would go by Murphy and Jo, right? But no, those names belong to their furry four-legged friends who inspired their business, their beautiful rescue dogs Murphy and Joey. They wanted to give back to the two that inspired them, so a portion of all of their company’s proceeds is donated to Save Our Scruff. Save Our Scruff is located in Toronto and is a non-profit organization that rescues dogs and finds them fur-ever homes. This dangerous darling duo are heroes in many ways. They are friends to the environment, to their own and all canines, and most of all, to one another!

Eleven Thirty and Murphy & Jo are truly brands to admire!
