THE FEATURE: WELCOME TO THE LIFE

Over the past 23 years, (yes – it’s been that long) I’ve been asked many times, "What is preloved?" Originally, the answer was simple… “It's a clothing store on Queen Street West".  As the company grew to 4 stores across Canada, and multiple wholesale customers around the world, that didn't quite feel right anymore.  So, the answer evolved to “preloved is an incredible clothing concept”. Over time, as both the company and I matured, I realized that was still not a good enough description for the company’s purpose, philosophy, and impact.

preloved represents a lifestyle that goes way beyond clothing – don’t get me wrong, fashion is our business, and we live and die by our collections. However, I am sure you have heard me say it a thousand times: I am an accidental environmentalist -  I started out trying to make people look good, and saving the planet just kinda happened!  23 years later, I have three kids and you know, I couldn't be prouder to be able to tell them that’s what I do every day.

To be honest, at times it can be a little intimidating to find myself a player in this "green space".  Sometimes I feel like I’m listening to Charlie Brown’s parents talking when I hear things like this: “A sustainable standard to an alternative, traditional linear economy in which we keep resources and extract the maximum value with the consumption to the biologically productive area is necessary for economic growth”.

WHAT???  Why does this have to be so difficult?  Well, I’ve decided that it doesn’t, and I am living proof.  I'm not even sure how to spell 'circular economy' (thank goodness for spell check)little alone know exactly what it means. Yet, over the past two decades, preloved has diverted almost 1,000,000 sweaters out of landfill.  How’s that for a girl who can't spell?

You don’t need a degree in environmental science to make a difference in the environment.  All you need is a little common sense, a lot of creativity and a ton of FUN!  That is what THE LIFE is all about!  So welcome!  Thanks for stopping by.
